Don't always trust the gps

So I decide to go out to cache on lunch today, and was able to find 2 pretty quickly. I then looked at the gps and I wasn't that far from another one, I'd just need to go down some back roads to get there. So I say to myself... "Self, let's go!!" I found the first turn, just an old country road, and start cruising @ 55mph. I came over a small hill and then the road turns into a farmers field road. Lucky for me, one side of the gate was open, because there was no way the jeep was stopping in time!! With the ABS pulsing like mad, I went through the open side of the gate going about 30 mph, through giant puddles, ruts, mud, rocks etc. (Everything you would expect on a road the farm tractors go over).. So, needless to say, my normaly spotless Jeep, is now covered in mud... As it turns out, the road on the gps, was not a road for long.....

Spring is on the way

Just went out for a quick lunchtime cache because it was sunny and 53 degrees out. You know, one of those day you want ot go out all day caching, and blow off work.   

date night cache

My DW, and I, went on a much needed date, on friday night... We went to dinner first, then out for some night caching, in the snow. We found a couple quick grabs, which was cool! We then seached for one in a park, by shoppingtown mall, and as we were walking up to it there were some other cachers there. It seems they couldn't find it eaither, as there was tons of tracks around the tree, but they looked kinda sad as they walked away before we got up to the coordinates. So, a big fat DNF for both of us! Its always a good time caching with the dw.

with a high od about 20 degrees this weekend doens look good for geocaching.. looking forward to nice weather..

WE found it

we went over the bridge through the woods and past the pond and found our treasure on a beautiful fall day

And so it begins... a whole new obsession!

We decided in August, 2010,  to start Geocaching as a family.. We went online and found a site where people all over the world can hide & seak caches, with posted GPS coordinates. We uploaded some coordinates, and we haven't looked back since..

So, Rob had a GPS unit, from a previous Christmas, that was just collecting dust, so it just made sense. We found our first Cache behind a local hotel, in the lamp post shroud. It was just a log sheet, but it was amazing to see how many people have found it before us. At the time we didn't quite know what to expect, or what to look for, so it was a huge deal!

We've since treked through the woods in a nearby park, with and without our toddlers. We've been bitten by many mosquitos and had antibiotics from one of those bug bites.. OUCH! The kids enjoy doing it as well!! When they go with us, we call it "treasure hunting", because we aim for the caches that have trade items in them. We've found some really cute toys in some local caches, including my little ponies, some Matchbox cars, and even a self-stamped wooden nickel, which is what we're planning on doing, as our trade item. Once we have the design just right, we'll post a picture..!
